Often it’s the small things that count when it comes to reducing waste and improving the health of ourselves and our families. Using eco-friendly products in the kitchen is one way we can make sustainable and worthwhile changes. From saying no to plastic wrap right through to only using reusable containers and straws, the kitchen is a great place to start making a difference! To help you get started, we’ve made a list of five of the best eco-friendly products your kitchen must have!
5 Eco-Friendly Products Needed in Every NZ Kitchen
Going green is no longer the realm of hippies and do-gooders! It’s the responsibly of all of us to make good choices regarding our habits and the kitchen products we use at home. It makes sense that if you’re doing your best to provide fresh, healthy and organic food for your family, you also want to use kitchen products which are safe and environmentally friendly to use too. Here are five products to get you started:
Storage – you’ll be aware of BPA, PVC and phthalates which are present in some plastic containers. These chemicals can leach into your food, which you then ingest. Storing your food in glass containers is one way to avoid this from occurring. You could also use a Kai Carrier Reusable Storage Bag, which contain none of those nasties!
Cooking utensils – swap your plastic spoon for a sustainable and eco-friendly bamboo option instead. With no nasties to leach into your food, and not using any petroleum products to make it, it’s a far better option!
Eco-friendly wraps – plastic wrap is just as bad as plastic bags. Used once and then thrown away, it doesn’t decompose and is left lying around potentially causing a hazard for animals and insects. Using a reusable food wrap made from 100% cotton, beeswax, tree resin and coconut oil is a great alternative.
Eco-friendly straws – with the ban of plastic straws being announced, now is the time to swap to reusable metal straws! With a handy straw cleaning brush, they’ll stay super clean and ready for use! We stock different diameter and length straws too, so you’ll always find the perfect one for your drinks.
Green cleaning products – last but not least, swap your chemical cleaning products for green replacements. While we don’t sell the products themselves, we do sell the glass bottles you can put your own homemade cleaners into.
We’d love to know what eco-friendly products you are using in your kitchen. Drop us a line today and if you have any requests for us to stock, we’d be happy to look into the possibility for you.
